Delta & Northwest, Together on the Pink Plane

Call me a Delta-die hard, but one of the things I love in October is to spot our pink plane at airports and follow its journey. I even take pictures of it when I see it. And apparently so do other folks!

Here’s the latest on Delta’s pink plane:

On October 1st, Delta and Northwest employees welcomed our signature Breast Cancer Research Foundation pink plane to Minneapolis/St. Paul. Given air traffic control sign “Breast Cancer One,” the crowd erupted into thunderous applause as it pulled into Northwest’s Hangar 4 with 80 Delta and Northwest breast cancer survivors onboard.

The charter flight from New York-La Guardia to Minneapolis kicked off our Delta’s Force for Global Good campaign to support BCRF.

Throughout October, you might spot some flight attendants wearing a limited-edition pink dress, patterned after our signature Richard Tyler-designed red dress uniform. This was in limited supply and bought on their own dime to show support! We’re also selling pink lemonade on all flights worldwide for $2 per glass, with all proceeds benefiting the BCRF.  I noticed on my last plane trip a week ago from NYC (and throughout October) that ground employees are wearing jeans and showing support wearing pink shirts and tops, including the new Delta and BCRF co-branded T-shirts at our “Pink Boutiques.” And LGA and ATL airports had pink balloons everywhere!

Since we began our partnership with the BCRF in 2005, it’s truly ‘awesome’ that we’ve raised nearly $1 million for the foundation through the sale of pink products and donations.

And back to my favorite plane, our pink and white 757 has flown more than 3 million miles to generate awareness for the cause. That’s ’sweet!’

PS > More scoop: On Tuesday, I heard it’s headed down to Puerto Rico. And then later this month, it gets more sun by traveling to Montego Bay, Jamaica and Cancun, Mexico.

Have you spotted the pink plane? Tell us about your “pink” encounters this month!
